Raising Muslims: How Selling Crackers Taught My Son Independence and Money Sense

πŸ‘¦: "Ummi, I want toys."
πŸ§•: "What toys? You've had so many toys."
A typical mommy's response.

πŸ‘¦: "I want super wing."
πŸ§•: "Then, go and sell the small packet of super rings. 2 for $1."

πŸ‘¦: "But, how? Who's going to buy?"
πŸ§•: "Your super wing costs $9. So you need $9. You need at least 9 people to buy your 'kropok'. Try and sell 2 of each to Uncle Man, Kholana, Cik Mamat, Cik Apiz, Nyai, Yayi, Abi and Wawa. You can get $8 already. I will top up the remaining, if necessary."

He considered the proposal. He shyly took 2 super ring, and said "2 for $1" to Uncle Man and ran off. Well, he tried.🀷

πŸ§•: "You aren't shy to ask for toys, but you are shy to work hard and earn for your toys? Go and try again. If you really want the super wing; Say nicely. Say 'Please'. Say 'Thank You.' I'm not buying you a toy. You are gonna buy for yourself."πŸ™…πŸ™†

Definitely, it wasn't easy. In the process, he was shy, he had fear. He sulked and cried when people didn't want to buy his 'kropok'. but he overcame it. Along the way, he gained confidence. He learnt to be gracious. And he learnt the basic MATHS; addition and subtraction!πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

Alhamdulillah, with Allah's graciousness and mercy, and with other's empathy and sympathy.πŸ˜† He earned his $9 in a day. And, he managed to buy his super wing.✈️🚁

"I like scoop (his new toy), Ummi." He never said this before. Normally, we saw his joy of simply playing his toys.

But this is exceptional, he loves his super wing 'scoop'🚜 more than others. Cos, this is his EFFORt. Mabruk. MasyaAllah!πŸ‘πŸ’•

"So, ummi, I no need to go school? I can sell kropok and make money."πŸ€¦πŸ’†

"You go to school to master your maths, languages, and others. This helps you better to sell kropok. K, now go to school."πŸ‘¦πŸ«πŸ“

As much as parenting is important. Teaching moral values to my children. So, is the importance of understanding the value of money. When, I did this to M, its majorly due to the huge influence I got from reading the book 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' by Robert T Kiyosaki, early this year. The main point learnt, learn the value of money and later, learn how money can work for you.

May Allah grants mercy, strength, intellect, abundance of rizq and goodness to all of us. Amin.β™₯️
